When I was done reading this story " The Wooden bowls", I thought it was related to empathy because when the little boy told that when his father and mother were old the father and mother realized that they were going to be like him and his son was going to treat him like what he did to his grandfather. So they had empathy so they let the grandfather go back to the family table. This story teaches that always have to put yourself in other's shoes. This is what I thought about this story.

Be clear when you write. Who is the "him" in "they were going to be like him". Don't assume your audience knows what you are writing about.
